Electrical Engineer Description: Electrical engineers work on electronic technology that helps our everyday lives. For instance, GPS systems, generators that power electricity and aircraft electrical systems are just some of the innovations that have been created by electrical engineers. Statistics: In 2006, there were said to be 291,000 jobs for electrical engineers, working for companies that specialize in communications, medical devices, and electronics. The prospects look good for this career, as our dependence upon electronics and technology grows rapidly with each year. It is said that this is one of the fastest growing careers in the next decade, with above average demand in the years to come. Training: You most definitely need a college degree to be an electrical engineer, as well as with any kind of engineering job. A strong focus on mathematics and science is most important. You will also need a diverse education involving computers, social studies and good English. Those who are successful in electric engineering are incredibly detail-oriented and self motivated. You must be able to invent your own ideas that you have the patience to test and rethink. Salary: The average salary for an electric engineer in 2006 was between $60,640 and $94,050 depending upon education, experience, and where you work as an electric engineer. The highest paid were said to earn approximately $115,240.
