There is a saying that is attributed to Ghandi that has always resonated with me. There is more to life than increasing its speed. Our lives are far too hectic these days, it seems. We over schedule ourselves; we over schedule our kids; we are over scheduled by our bosses, and our spouses. Most of us take on far too many commitments. This is a function of the ease of communication. It didn’t used to be so easy for people to get hold of us. Now, we find ourselves slaves to our blackberries and other mobile contraptions that we cart around with us so dutifully. We receive a constant barrage of emails, texts, phone calls, and alerts. Most of them are telling us all the things we need to be or should be doing; where we need to be; how we should spend our time. We have to get in the habit of taking more control of our time and our lives. There is a time for work and there is a time for errands, and there is a time for service. But there also has to be some time for recreation. What we are most lacking in our society is good wholesome recreation. The widespread obesity, Vitamin D deficiency (resulting from lack of sunlight), diabetes, and heart disease that are all so prevalent in our society today are all directly related to our lack of physical outdoor activity. It’s time to pull our families and friends together and get out and have some fun!
