Writing & Speaking
I like the quote attributed to George Bernard Shaw:The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place.Communication is such a complicated thing. We often say as much with our body language or silence as we do with our words. Then there is the matter of interpretation. Subtle differences in word choice or tone can completely change meaning. Context can also play a major role in defining meaning. True intent cannot always be known and regardless of intent, we frequently impute meaning that was unintended. My mother-in-law is fond of saying language is a silly form of communication.Generally she says it at the conclusion of one of those awkward language lapses. For better or worse, language is at the heart of communication as we know it today. If you would like to contribute your thoughts and ideas, we would like to hear from you. Article submissions are reviewed daily. If you send in something that is original, insightful, and well written, we may publish it.
